Panthers safety Wesley was ejected for hitting Buccaneers PR Smith

During Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Carolina Panthers safety Dante Wesley was ejected late in the first half because he launched himself into a punt returner in Buccaneers jersey-Clifton Smith.

The hit happened when there were 10 seconds left in the second quarter. Wesley appeared to leave his feet and hit Smith in the upper body with his left shoulder. Players from both teams had to be brought off the sidelines. Afterwards, Smith returned to field but was helped to his feet and walked off the field a few minutes later.

The hit caused the Panthers to be penalized 15 yards. And the Buccaneers said at halftime that Smith had got a concussion and would not be able to play for the remainder of the game.
