Three of the four AFC division champions each have more than one representative in AFC team to play the Pro Bowl game. Only the AFC North champion, the Cincinnati Bengals, has no player picked for the all-star game, for the second straight year, joining the 3-12 Kansas City Chiefs to be the only AFC teams not represented this season.
“I don’t even know what to think about it,” said running back Cedric Benson, representing most of those in Bengals jersey. “That was a bit surprising. There’s been a lot of great plays made, a lot of guys have played consistent for us to be where we are, winning our division. So I don’t know. I can’t put my finger on it. I know sometimes it tends to be the known names in the league get in that thing. That’s all right. We still have a chance to get to the Super Bowl.”
The Bengals originally thought someone from their defense, like cornerbacks Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall, would get chosen as the team has given up the fifth-fewest points in the league and ranks fourth in yards allowed. All got disappointed.
