2010 is the last year of the three-year contract between New England Patriots and wide receiver Randy Moss and Moss expects that the Patriots are likely to let him leave as the contract expires because a 33-year-old wide receiver could be expendable in the league.
"I don’t think they going to extend my contract here," Moss told reporters, per the Boston Globe, today while attending a charity softball game in Florida. "I understand the beast, the nature of it. I think that just with what I think and what I know I don’t think they’re going to re-sign me back. So, after this season if there is not a lockout I’ll be looking for a new team. I got a lot of respect for the Patriots and what they did for me and my family. So, the only thing I can do is just play this year out and see what my future holds after that."
With the contract, the Patriots should pay totally $27 million to Moss and the base salary in 2010 is $6.4 million. Catching 83 passes for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns last year, Moss does not expect the Patriots to pay much for retaining a receiver at his age. However, he believes quarterback Tom Brady will continue wearing the Patriots jerseys with a long-term contract.

Patriots LB Thomas may be benched for the second game
The New England Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas is facing the possibility of being benched by Coach Bill Belichick for the second straight game after being surprised by not having chance to play Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
That is definitely not what he expected when he signed the biggest contract the Patriots ever gave to an unrestricted free agent. Actually, he was poised to play a bigger role in Patriots jersey this year after having two solid seasons with the Ravens while the Patriots lost two veteran linebackers—Mike Vrabel in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tedy Bruschi to retirement.
But Coach Belichick seems not satisfied with the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker’s performance at all. As for this Sunday’s game in London, Belichick has said that he will activate the players that the team feels give the best chance to win, while Thomas had just 12 tackles in the first five games he started this year and only one sack, which came in the season opener.

Patriots are seeking for new backup for Tom Brady
With Matt Cassel going to the Denver Broncos and starting quarterback Tom Brady injured, the New England Patriots found the depth behind Brady was unsatisfying. They are urgent for a sound No. 2 quarterback, which surely is not Kevin O'Connell.
As a former San Diego State star, O’Connell worked exclusively from the shotgun in college. His performance as Brady’s backup was just so-so, with 12 of 26 for 108 yards in three exhibitions this month. So it is surprising but reasonable that he was released by the Patriots even if the starter was injured and there was no backup ready for the following games.
At the moment the Patriots have had Andrew Walter on O’Connell’s spot. The ex-Raider, however, was not good enough, too. He was 5 of 9 for 62 yards in his only preseason action. So the Patriots are expected to go out and trade for an established backup or sign a free agent with some experience as a starter.
