It is a hard job to choose from all those who are or were wearing Chicago Bears jerseys a best team of the decade, but to name the best of them, few people would disagree with the choice of middle linebacker Brian Urlacher.
Blessed by a rare combination of size and speed, Urlacher has been voted to six Pro Bowls in 10 seasons while anchoring a defense that helped the Bears win division championships in 2001, 2005 and 2006. Having at least 100 tackles in each of his first nine seasons before missing most of the 2009 campaign with an injury, Urlacher was also named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2005.
His dominance burst onto the scene when he was a rookie after being picked in 2000 draft as the ninth pick. With team-leading 165 tackles and eight sacks, he was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year that year. The next year he was among the top five choices of MVP with team-high 148 tackles along with six sacks and three interceptions. Each of the following seven seasons was full of achievements. With the new reward, Urlacher is expected to return for 2010 season at full strength.
