Steelers QB Roethlisberger said it was his fault for team’s losses

The Pittsburgh Steelers top quarterback Ben Roethlisberger understands well what a team leader’s responsibility is: not only to take honor for wins, but also take blames for losses.

Instead of blaming the wide receivers for running incorrect pass routes, blaming the special teams for allowing a third costly kickoff return touchdown in four games or blaming the offensive coordinator Bruce Arian for wrong decision, the quarterback wearing No.7 Steelers jersey blamed himself for affecting the whole offense and leading the team to the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North.

“You know what? I had a bad day. Everyone in here’s had a bad day. … I flat out had a bad day and it’s going to happen sometimes,” Roethlisberger said Thursday. “It’s just unfortunate that when the quarterback has a bad game it affects the whole offense. That’s why you can’t afford to have too many bad games.”

Having been in the top three in passing yardage most of the season, Roethlisberger slipped to No. 7 after going 20 of 40 for 174 yards during a second successive loss to the Bengals. He took the blames, but did not figure out why he should. Instead, he said his focus has been shifted to the next game: this Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Perhaps that is what he wanted people to do: shifting focus from past losses to possible win in the future.
