Broncos starting RB Buckhalter may miss Sunday game against Patriots with ankle injury

After spraining left ankle in the game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Denver Broncos running back Correll Buckhalter missed the team’s practice Wednesday, causing suspension that the Broncos’ most productive running back may miss this Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

Buckhalter sprained his left ankle after gaining 55 yards on five receptions and 37 yards on six carries against the Cowboys. Then he left the stadium on crutches without taking off his broncos jersey. It was not sure how severe the injury was, but he was not seen on Wednesday when the Broncos were taking practices.

Buckhalter has become the team leader with 267 yards on 37 carries for a whopping 7.2-yard average. He also has caught eight passes for 96 yards by so far this season. If he is still unable to play this weekend, rookie Knowshon Moreno will likely take over his job to start this Sunday against the Patriots. Moreno has rushed for 249 yards so far, and he may need LaMont Jordan and Peyton Hillis to share some carries if he is to start the Sunday game.
